Tips for working with the CRM On Demand JavaScript API

Tips for working with the CRM On Demand JavaScript API

Are you ready to add some slick functionality to your Oracle CRM on Demand with JavaScript API’s? You’ve already mastered CRUD; creating, reading, updating and deleting records in your CRM and making changes to the CRM UI, like adding buttons and getting field values.

But you’re just getting started and there’s so much more you can do. How about bringing up a dialog box in JavaScript that has fields your users can input? Or what about building in an iframe with your own custom content? You can show product videos, demos, user interviews, images or come up some nifty functionality that will satisfy a specialized need.  These are great ways to take CRM on Demand and truly make it your own.

If you’ve never done this before (and even if you have) your first thought might be what technologies should you consider to make the job - and your life - easier? It’s a great question!

Cleaning Your Data Manually – A Data Quality Initiative Doomed to Failure

Cleaning Your Data Manually – A Data Quality Initiative Doomed to Failure

Anyone whose company depends on a database, will agree that data quality is critically important. Sadly, many of these same people, when allocating budgets will not be ready to invest money in data quality by cleaning a database to improve/remove out-of-date, incomplete and/or duplicate records. It seems that there is almost always a higher priority project against which to spend. Even worse, dirty versus clean data might be a simple concept, but it’s not a simple problem. In an earlier post, we presented the reasons why the “write an in-house script” quick, easy, cheap data fix is neither quick, nor easy, nor cheap. Today we’d like to talk about another perennial favorite data fix:

Writing Custom Scripts to Clean Duplicates is a Bad Idea

Writing Custom Scripts to Clean Duplicates is a Bad Idea

Duplicate records in your CRM are among the most likely sources of data corruption, leading to inaccurate data and misleading reports. Duplicate data can be easily cleaned- and then prevented. But, that doesn’t seem to be the reality for many companies. The breakdown starts when processes to prevent the introduction of duplicates into the database are either flawed, inconsistently applied or absent. Human error is all too frequently the main culprit. Most software lacks the sophistication to detect any but the most blatant cases of duplication and can be too cumbersome or complex for any but the savviest of users to run. There are different ways that companies can deal with this problem. Unfortunately, in an effort to save time or money and often as a result of underestimating the actual complexity of the problem – some of the solutions that companies adopt to fix their data quality are not effective.

IT Strategy: The Cutting Edge of Analytics in Business

IT Strategy: The Cutting Edge of Analytics in Business

Clint Bidlack, President and CTO of ActivePrime, visited Babson University’s MBA students in the IT Strategy class taught by Professor David Charles. They discussed issues and trends in analytics, cloud computing and data quality. By far the most interesting topic for students was analytics. There’s a real thirst for understanding how analytics is being used in industry, what the major pitfalls are, and how to prepare oneself for leading successful analytics projects and analytics driven organizations. You might say that the “Moneyball Effect” is in full swing in MBA programs, where decisions are made based on data, not just instincts. Everyone wants better decisions and better outcomes by using big, real-time data.

ActivePrime was pleased to recently attend the Oracle CRM On Demand User Group in Dallas.  We were excited to see our customers, exchange ideas, and participate in the roundtable discussions. Twenty-one CRM users from thirteen companies in the area came together to chat, share their problems, and learn new solutions. There was a lot of focus on mobility access, the new modern UI and also challenges around user adoption.

Bridging the “Collaboration Gap”

Bridging the “Collaboration Gap”

There must have been many times when you have wanted to collaborate on a project or include others on a conversation to get their input, but ran into roadblocks such as limited email, outside suppliers or unsecured instant messaging. This is the “collaboration gap”, and it has wasted lots of time and money. Here are a few typical scenarios….any look familiar? “I need an approval for this image and then I can send out this email campaign. The Sales Manager is anxious to get this out so that his sales team can start pursuing these leads. Once I get the image approved I need to check with Accounting to make sure we are up to date on our subscription to the image supplier. I wish there was a way to keep all these project centered conversations together and everyone who is interested informed on the progress.”

Recap: SoCal CRM On Demand User Group | June 5th, 2014

Two weeks ago, some of the folks here at ActivePrime attended the Oracle CRM On Demand User Group in Irvine, CA. We were excited to be there, to catch up with everyone, and to participate in the very helpful and revealing roundtable discussions. Here are some of our observations, tips we learned, and people who struck us as outstanding.

Things That Made Us Do A Happy Dance

Bob from CoreLogic presented their roadmap for the next year. Their goals include setting up analytics and an Oracle MDM solution over the next year or two. But until then, he called ActivePrime their MDM! We're thrilled to be called an MDM solution. We feel being labelled as a curator of customer master data is a great place to be. Thanks, Bob!

Coming Soon: To Make Your Sales Reps Very Happy

During the user group, Bob from CoreLogic also showed us how his sales reps manually go through their Opportunities monthly and update a lot of fields by hand. This takes significant time and, needless to say, the reps don't do it consistently, thus generating problems for creating accurate Opportunity reports. He wanted to know if ActivePrime could help. ActivePrime is releasing a product later this month which will allow users to do mass updates of record owners, opportunity status, and field values. It can mass update fields across a defined list of Opportunities, so it should fit CoreLogic’s needs. Perhaps this is something that your company needs as well... if so, contact greg.sales@activeprime.comto get you started.
